New age tribal sound / 四打神楽・右左口竹之会

Although this web site doesn't have something to do with music, let me introduce a group named "UBAGUCHI-TAKENO-KAI" I came across on the hillside in the night that was playing for rehearsal session when I was there for shooting night scenes of the town beneath. Their music is Japanese traditional one to devote to Shinto gods or spirits, but combined with other elements from Afro tribal and so on. The members are farmers and their instruments are made of bamboo they cropped. デザインとは関係ありませんが、以前取材で山梨を訪れた際、夜景を撮ろうと丘に登って出くわした、神楽を練習していた「右左口竹之会」という面白いグループをご紹介させて頂きます。

日本の伝統音楽でありながら、非常にノリが強いので驚きます。ハウスやアフロ・トライバルのような四つ打ちの要素を神楽に昇華したという事でしょうか。お祭りや伝統芸能に興味はあるけれど現代の音楽に比べるとちょっと物足りない、という人にはとてもお勧めです。

ちなみに、彼らは普段農業をしながら神社で奉納の演奏を行っている「農民」だそうで、楽器も竹を伐採して作った自前だそうです。
